Rows of Nordmann firs on a Danish plantation under a light winter frost

2011 — 2026

Fifteen years for one Christmas

Twenty-one trees, planted by hand in Central Jutland and tended by hand for fifteen winters. This is what happened in between.

Who is behind The Twenty-One

The Twenty-One is Frespar's own collection, based in Haaltert, Belgium. Our trees grow on plantations in Denmark, tended by hand year after year. We choose the finest trees one by one and handle every enquiry, invoice and delivery personally, right to your front door.

The craft

Abies nordmanniana
Broad, glossy, deep-green needles that feel soft and stay on long after cutting. A symmetrical, dense and full shape — with needles gentle enough for children and pets.
Every month, by hand
From its fifth year, each tree is tended by hand at least once a month. It grows naturally, but is gently guided — small reusable slats slowly lead the branches into place.
Pruned in summer and winter
Workers prune in both seasons. In June they carefully snap the new shoots, one by one, to perfect the shape.
A pin for the crown
Before the growing season, a small pin is placed at the top of each tree to keep birds off the fragile new shoot. It is removed once the shoot has matured.
Nourished by its own soil
As organic as possible. Roots of cut trees stay in the soil and turn to humus; pruned branches are left between the rows to feed the next generation.
Chosen one by one
In the final autumn, we walk the plantation and assess every tree by eye. Only twenty-one earn a number and a place in a family home.
Planted by hand

Planted by hand

Twenty-one seedlings are planted in the sandy soil of Central Jutland. Sandy soil releases nutrients slowly, so everything that follows takes its time.
